Gwyneth & Chris Martin Are Separating

by Alanna Bennett

The latest GOOP posting wasn't a microbiotic recipe or a workout technique: it was the notification of the end of an era. Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin are separating. The news crashed Goop. The announcement, posted on the sight this afternoon, was entitled Consious Uncoupling. It read:

It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate. We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate. We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been. We are parents first and foremost, to two incredibly wonderful children and we ask for their and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time. We have always conducted our relationship privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and coparent, we will be able to continue in the same manner.Love,Gwyneth & Chris

This news comes after twelve years together and nearly eleven years of marriage. As they mention above, the pair have two children together: Apple Martin, born 2004, and Moses Martin, born 2006. There were rumors that Paltrow's feud with Vanity Fair a few months back had to do with an alleged affair with Miami billionaire Jeff Stoffer, but this was more or less put to rest by Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter's response to the brouhaha.

In the minutes after the announcement was posted, Paltrow's site Goop crashed — presumably because of the influx of traffic. As of this article's publication it still appears to be down.
