Where Michael Phelps' Wedding May Have Happened

by Loretta Donelan

It turns out that Michael Phelps pulled a fast one on all of us and secretly married fiancée Nicole Johnson months ago. Bustle has reached out to Phelps' agent for comment, but has yet to receive a response. TMZ obtained the marriage license, but other details about the secret wedding are emerging, including where Phelps and Johnson got married. The June 9, 2016 wedding between the US Olympian and former Miss California USA took place in Paradise Valley, Arizona, and it sounds beautiful.

While Phelps hails from Maryland, and Johnson was born in Colorado, Arizona is where the two live and have settled down together. In late 2015, the couple purchased a 6,800-square-foot home with a view of Phoenix's Camelback Mountain in Paradise Valley. The house is gorgeous, with high ceilings, beautiful grounds, and, of course, a swimming pool. Paradise Valley is a small, affluent suburb of Phoenix that has been the home of many famous athletes, including Muhammad Ali, Shaquille O'Neal, and Jesse Owens. Phelps' coach Bob Bowman coaches swimming at nearby Arizona State, and Phelps is reportedly helping coach the team as well.

While Johnson had previously hinted at a destination wedding, it looks like the real event took place very close to home, or very possibly possibly in their home.

Phelps and Johnson have been dating on and off since 2007, and they'd been engaged since February 2015. The couple welcomed their first child, a boy named Boomer Phelps, in May. Phelps recently made a huge splash at the 2016 Rio Olympics, where he became the most decorated Olympian of all time. It's funny that with all that press surrounding him, Johnson, and their son, it turned out the couple was married the whole time.

Johnson had been dropping hints about the wedding this summer and fall, though she failed to let on that it had already happened. She'd mentioned the wedding was expected to be a small affair, which explains why it was kept such a secret. Phelps' agent Peter Carlisle reportedly officiated the wedding, but the rest of the guest list is pretty mysterious. TMZ discovered that on June 9, the day of the wedding, Johnson Instagrammed a picture of herself, Phelps, and their son Boomer dressed very casually captioned "Such a memorable night with my lil fambam." Could this be one of the only pictures from the mysterious wedding? We may never know.
