How To Make Your Bed More Comfortable & Stylish

by Taylor Fuller

Do you love to sleep late? Or just love to sleep, period? If so, it's time to spruce up your sleeping space. But how can you make your bed more comfortable? There are plenty of ways to get cozy while also accomplishing a more adult, aesthetically appealing appearance. After all, according to the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development, you spend approximately 25 years of your life in your bed sleeping. That's a lot of time and if you're going to be spending so much time there, you might as well be comfortable and be proud of your space via some of these super simple techniques. And better yet, they're all quick and easy fixes. Seriously, you only need a few things to make your bed your new favorite place (as if it wasn't your favorite place already).

All you've got to do is add some super comfortable sheets and pillow cases, plus maybe a soft mattress pad to make things extra luxurious. A comforter that you want to wrap yourself in forever can be a serious game changer, too — seriously, the main reason it takes me a year and a half to get out of bed each morning is because of my blanket. Plus, some of these additions to your bed will not only make it way more cozy, they'll also encourage you to actually make your bed every morning (which, to be totally honest, is so you can take a ton of cute decor photos for your Instagram). Invest in a gorgeous duvet or comforter plus some cute throw pillows and voila — you'll have a pretty little bed that you're totally proud of.

1. Sleep On Silk For The Best Beauty Sleep

ALASKA BEAR Natural Silk Pillowcase, $20, Amazon

A silk pillowcase is a great investment if you're looking for the best beauty sleep of your life. Dermatologists actually recommend them because they help to prevent wrinkles and dry skin. Plus, you can say goodbye to frizzy, bed head. This one comes in 18 different colors so you'll be sure to find the right color to match your bedding and preferences.

2. A Bamboo Pillowcase To Keep You Cool At Night

Nufabrx Pillowcase, $35 - $120, Amazon

Nothing is worse than waking up in the middle of the night all sweaty, and it can also be awfully uncomfortable trying to fall asleep when you feel hot. That's why a pillowcase made from 100% bamboo is a great option to keep you cool at night. The fabric is super breathable, antimicrobial, and keeps your temperature regulated.

3. Cuddle Up In The Coziest Pillow Ever

Leachco Snoogle Total Body Pillow, $50, Amazon

If you love to snuggle, a body pillow that wraps around you is the perfect way to make your bed comfier. The Snoogle isn't only for pregnant women, as it's advertised. It actually allows you to cuddle and support your body without the additional body heat that a partner or snuggle buddy would contribute.

4. Get Cozy With A Heated Mattress Pad

Sunbeam All Season Premium Heated Mattress Pad , $128, Amazon

I hate climbing into bed in the winter and having my sheets feel freezing to the touch. It completely contradicts the idea that you retreat under blankets to feel warm and cozy. So, before you hop into bed, warm it up with an amazing heated mattress pad. I used to have one of these when I lived in New York and a few minutes of heating before you get into bed is perfection! Plus, there are two different heating controllers so you and your partner can heat your individual sides of the bed however you want to.

5. Keep Cool With A Bed Fan

Bed Fan With Wireless Remote , $135, Amazon

If you're the opposite way and you have a problem staying cool at night, you can turn the temperature down with a fan that you keep at the end of your bed. It blows air under your sheets so you aren't warm while you sleep. Brilliant, right? It's completely adjustable — you can change the airflow, the height, and more.

6. Dress Up Your Bed With A Soft Throw Blanket

Chanasya Super Soft Faux Fur Throw Blanket, $35, Amazon

Throw blankets are great for making your bed prettier and comfier. You can find ones in all different materials and colors, but I find that adding one with a different texture makes your bed have some more depth to it. Plus, how amazing would it be to snuggle up under this faux fur throw? I don't think I'd move all day.

7. Add Some Luxurious Sheets Into The Mix

Hotel Luxury Bed Sheets Set , $30, Amazon

I love climbing into a hotel bed. They always have the softest sheets. They're always so soft and crisp, and I usually end up having an amazing night of sleep (you know, the kind of sleep where you fall asleep and wake up in the exact same spot). These luxurious sheets are made from double brushed Microfibers, which is more breathable and softer than Egyptian Cotton.

8. Relieve Pressure With A Mattress Topper

LUCID 3-inch Gel Memory Foam Mattress Topper, $65 - $120, Amazon

If you have back problems, you may want to invest in a mattress topper that can relieve pressure for you. This one is three inches thick and made from gel memory foam that's super soft. It's airy and improves your overall sleep climate. It comes in seven different sizes so you're sure to find one that fits on your mattress. A topper is often a cheaper way to improve the quality of your current mattress, so if you're not ready to drop major bucks on a totally new bed, try this route first.

9. Add A Bold Boho Comforter Into Your Bed

Magical Thinking Ophelia Medallion Comforter , $99 - $139, Urban Outfitters

Channel your inner bohemian with a beautiful printed comforter. It will liven up your bedroom and make your best even prettier than it was before. It's made from 100 percent cotton so you know that it's going to be soft and comfortable (and make you never want to leave it). It comes in sizes for an XL Twin, Full/Queen, and King.

10. Turn Your Bed Into An Oasis

Plum & Bow Soukay Delicate Comforter, $149 - $209, Urban Outfitters

I love entirely white rooms — they're simple, yet elegant and feminine. This gorgeous comforter will be sure to brighten up your room and your bed while still allowing you to keep a neutral palette. Plus, an all-white comforter is the perfect base for a million beautiful throw pillows.

11. Accessorize Your Bed With Some Pretty Throw Pillows

Assembly Home No Bad Days Pillow, $39, Urban Outfitters

A great way to accessorize your bed is with a throw pillow that's not only cute, but also puts out a positive message into the universe, a.k.a. your living space. What better way to remind yourself that there are "No Bad Days" than with a fun pillow that you'll see every morning when you're making your bed?

12. Lay Your Head Onto A Pop Of Color

Round Pintuck Pillow, $39 or two for $70, Urban Outfitters

Pops of colors make everything better and that includes your bed. Choose from 11 colors to add some personality to your bed. The vintage-inspired pillows are plush and velvety making them super luxurious. The best part about them is that you can buy a set and create the perfect set up you've been dreaming of.
