So Why Did Bella Hadid & The Weeknd Break Up?

by Courtney Lindley

You might not be able to feel your face once you hear this: Bella Hadid and The Weeknd reportedly broke up. One more time: Model and heir to the Yolanda Hadid throne (i.e. gene pool) and current Starboy may have called it quits on their approximately 18-month-long relationship. Bustle reached out to reps for Hadid and The Weeknd, but has not heard back at this time. According to People, a source said, "Their schedules have been too hard to coordinate and he is focusing on finishing and promoting his album." But don't get too worried. The source added, "They still have a great deal of love for one another and will remain friends.” So, is that why Hadid and The Weeknd broke up? Scheduling conflicts?

The Weeknd — real name: Abel Tesfaye — and Hadid were first involved back in April 2015, after the singer asked her to be part of the artwork for Beauty Behind the Madness . Following that, Hadid starred in the music video for "In the Night." Then at the 2016 Grammys, the two made their red carpet debut. In August of this year, Hadid described their Grammy night to Glamour. "It was a big night for him," she said. "He has worked so hard, and he did so well that night. As a girlfriend I wanted to be there to support him. Seeing him so happy when he won a Grammy made me so happy." She also explained what it's like to date the incredibly popular artist. "I'm dating Abel. I don’t see him as The Weeknd. I’m proud of The Weeknd and the music he makes, but I really love Abel," she said.

In October, the duo was spotted together in Tokyo and everything seemed fine. However, this isn't the first time the two decided to end things. At least, temporarily. According to E! News, in December 2015, the model and singer didn't spend the holidays together. "Bella and The Weeknd have taken a break," a source told E! "Their schedules got very busy and it really cut into there relationship. They are still in each other's lives though, just not in the same exclusive capacity." Sounds pretty similar to the reason cited above, right? Busy schedules are a hard thing to manage for any couple, let alone one so heavily in the spotlight. It might sound like a simple reason, but that doesn't mean it's not a valid one.

In a classic rom-com twist, the two both have scheduled appearances at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show later this month, so they will be forced to see each other. Hadid will be walking for the first time, and The Weeknd will be performing. Hopefully, things are amicable. Or better yet, reconciliation is in the air.
