The AMAs Could Be Absolutely Huge For Drake

by Michelle McGahan

With a record-breaking 13 American Music Award nominations this year, Drake is sitting pretty. The "Hotline Bling" rapper is up for more AMAs in one night than any artist has ever been before — including Michael Jackson, who previously held the record at 11 noms in 1984. Of course, fans are desperate to know: With that many nominations, will Drake be at the 2016 AMAs? I mean, he needs someone to go up there and collect all that gold...

While Drizzy hasn't announced either way if he'll be in attendance, I can't imagine he'd miss his big night. There are some seriously big name performers on the roster — Bruno Mars, Niall Horan, Lady Gaga, DJ Khaled, Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande, The Chainsmokers, Halsey, Shawn Mendes, and John Legend, just to name a few — and though Drake isn't one of them, he should probably be there to make several different acceptance speeches as he inevitably wins award after award.

And listen: He's up for awards across the board. Like, not only is he nominated for awards like Artist of the Year (natch), Collaboration of the Year (for two different songs, I might add), he's also up for everything from Favorite Artist Rap/R&B to Favorite Artist Pop/Rock, with many, many songs nominated in there. Dude is dominating the entire leader board — he just has to be there.

Interestingly enough, Drake hasn't attended an AMAs show in several years (he has attended — and performed — in the past, like in 2009 and 2011). Perhaps that's because, despite numerous nominations since 2010, Drake has never actually won an American Music Award before. But in my mind, that makes it all the more likely that he'll be at this year's award show, considering he's bound to walk away with at least one golden statuette. It's just basic math, right?

It looks like we'll find out come Nov. 20, when the 2016 AMAs airs live on ABC at 8 p.m. ET. C'monnnnn, Drake!
