Ghost Rider Is Trapped On 'S.H.I.E.L.D.'

by Leah Marilla Thomas

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. may be switching gears from "Ghost Rider" to "LMD," but does that mean the "burning man" is gone forever? Daisy may have been welcomed back by her corporate employer, but her partner in vigilantism faced a different fate. Will Robbie Reyes return on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ? He vanished, but maybe not forever.

At the end of the episode, Robbie and Eli disappeared along with a bomb. Are they trapped in another dimension again? There was science. There was magic. The rules are bending left and right. Coulson doesn't think this is the last we'll see of the Ghost Rider, and I'm willing to take his word for it. Robbie is almost certainly not dead. He's too difficult to kill. Hopefully they escape, and that wasn't just code for a new Ghost Rider joining the series. I'm going to miss Robbie and his family on S.H.I.E.L.D. — and especially the way Daisy seemed to fit in with them. She has always longed for a family, and they were good for her. I also wouldn't mind seeing Eli again. He is one of the most nuanced villains that this show has produced.

That said, Reyes may not have an easy time if and when he doesn't return. Like I said, Daisy got a free pass and a S.H.I.E.L.D. lanyard at the end of the episode, despite being labeled as a domestic terrorist by the US government. But Mace and that same government view Robbie as a murderer. Even if he does return, he's still going to be on the run. Any dreams of Robbie joining the Secret Avengers are going to have to be put on hold, for now.
