Who You Gonna Call For 'Ghostbusters 3'?

by Kristie Rohwedder

It's been over 20 years since Ghostbusters II hit theaters, and we've been drumming our fingers on our desks waiting for that third movie. For over 20 years. Our knuckles and fingertips are exhausted. But whaddya know? Our patience has paid off: the Ghostbusters 3 wheels have been and continue to be in motion. As Deadline reported last month, production is supposed to begin in early 2015. What's on the docket? For starters, finding someone (or someones) to stand at the movie's helm. In the wake of Harold Ramis's death, Ivan Reitman has decided to step down from the director role. However, Reitman, the director of the first two Ghostbusters movies, will be a producer of the third installment. Reitman told People on Monday that many directors “are throwing their hats in” to be a part of the project. “We’re starting the meetings,” he says. “We’re going to do it.”

Last month, a report came out that Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The LEGO Movie, 21 Jump Street, 22 Jump Street, and Clone High) were gearing up to do the Ghostbusters 3 thing. Naturally, this news made me grin from ear to ear. How could it not? If anyone could make the Ghostbusters world work in the twentyteens, it's those two!

However, that bubble was POPPED on Tuesday. According to Jeff Sneider at The Wrap, Lord and Miller allegedly turned down the offer:

BUT! That door might not be closed and dead bolted just yet:

We'll just have to wait and see how it plays out, I reckon.

So who they gonna call, er, cast? Anyone we know from Ghostbusters and/or Ghostbusters II? “There will be many people from the original cast,” Reitman says. NICE. However, he goes on to say that he’s uncertain whether or not Bill Murray will once again don a proton pack. “You’re really asking about Bill Murray, and I have no idea. All the other movies I made with Bill, he never told me he was doing it until… well, the longest was two weeks.” CLASSIC MURRAY.

Of course I want to know which people from the original cast will return, but what about THE GHOULS?!?! Will any of the old spooky characters make a creepy cameo?

What About The Grey Lady?

Or is he busy? He seems like he could be an "in demand" guy.

Or The Scoleri Brothers?

Does anyone have their agent's number? (I assume they share an agent.)

The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man?

What's he been up to? According to his IMDB page, he was in something called Convention of the Dead just this year. Maybe his sched is open now!

Slimer?!?!?!

I imagine he's rolling in Ecto-Cooler royalties. He's probably lounging it out on a secluded island. Might he take a break from his life of leisure, hop in his private jet, and fly to the Ghostbusters 3 set? Hard to say.
