What The Hell Even Is This Disney Movie?

by Alanna Bennett

Y'all remember Booboo Stewart? No? "Who is Booboo Stewart?" you ask? Well, Booboo Stewart was in the Twilight films, and no I am not just making up a nickname for Twilight star Kristen Stewart. And BooBoo Stewart was cast in a new weird-ass Disney movie that is happening for some reason.

The show in question? That'd be Descendants, which follows the teen progeny of famous Disney villains and is brought to you by High School Musical's Kenny Ortega. Stewart will play Jay, son of Jaffar. Here are some of the rest of the characters so far:

  • Mal, son of (you guessed it!) Maleficent, played by Dove Cameron.
  • Evvie, daughter of the Evil Queen, who given what she named her daughter might actually have the first name Evil???
  • Carlos, son of Cruella De Vil

Now, we spent a good portion of our childhood watching Disney Channel Original movies and, sure, after Halloween Town II: Kalabar's Revenge, we can give the younger generation this (though Motocrossed and Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century remain gold). EW's synopsis of it is below, you can decide for yourself whether you'd have fallen for it when you were a member of their intended demographic (or whether you'll shirk the prison of age and fall for it now anyway):

Here’s the scoop: Beast and Belle rule over an idyllic kingdom with their kind teenage son, who looks to be taking the throne, but his first proclamation involves a shot at redemption for the misbehaving kids of Cruella De Vil, Maleficent, the Evil Queen fromSnow White, and Jafar (named Carlos, Mal, Evvie, and Jay, respectively).

The teens attend the kingdom’s hottest prep school alongside other famous offspring, including the children of the Fairy Godmother, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel, and Mulan. The villainous teens face a dilemma of nature vs. nurture, and whether they’ll follow in their parents’ footsteps or embrace their own inner hero.

Eh, it can stay. It's sure to have some memorable lines, at the very least, even if Angelina Jolie seems unlikely to make a cameo as Maleficent.
