A Jon Hamm/Justin Bieber Feud Is Nigh

by Lia Beck

In news that just fell from the sweet heavens above and into the hands of this Hamm-lovin', Bieber-hatin' writer, Jon Hamm has called Justin Bieber a "shithead." For real, y'all. If you didn't like Hamm before, you probably do now and, alternatively, if you didn't think Justin Bieber was a shithead, then you probably do now because the great Donald Draper has declared it so. Oh, you want context? Fine. I'll give you context, but really, shouldn't Jon Hamm calling Justin Bieber a shithead be enough?

In the May issue of Men's Fitness, Hamm talks Mad Men (duh!), Million Dollar Arm (eh...), and probably some fitness, but the topic of Justin Bieber was raised when Hamm began talking about people learning responsibility. Hamm told the magazine,

Look at Bieber or whoever. You’re like, ‘What the fuck, man? What are you doing? Why?’ There’s no one telling those people no, and it’s a shame. ... [These people need] a mom or a dad or a really good friend who can say, ‘Hey, shithead!’ ... You see people in the world and you’re like, ‘Do you know how a washing machine works? Do you know how to wash a dish? Life skills are something we’re missing… just shit you needed to learn in life.

Preach, Hammy! (Remind me never to call him Hammy again.) This guy knows what's up! I don't know if Jon Hamm keeps up with his Bieber news — if he does, we have more in common than I ever thought possible — but he seems to have a good grasp of Bieber's situation. He is, in fact, considered a shithead by many people these days, so we can consider Jon Hamm's thoughts on Bieber to be a Stars: They're Just Like Us moment.

Hamm's strong words for Bieber may seem surprising — Like, why you gotta hate on Bieber, yo? That's my job — but this is not the first time Hamm has been open about his opinion of certain celebrities. In a 2012 interview with Elle UK Hamm said, "We’re at a place where the idea of being ‘elite’ is somehow considered negative. Whether it’s Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian or whoever, stupidity is certainly celebrated." He continued, "being a fucking idiot is a valuable commodity in this culture because you’re rewarded significantly." A bit of a back-and-forth then began between Hamm and Kardashian, but was settled because it doesn't actually matter if those two like each other.

Bieber has not responded to Hamm's words, but if a Bieber/Hamm feud breaks out, you better believe we'll have all the updates.
