Their Next Movie Looks Too Good to be True

by Celeste Mora

How To Train Your Dragon was a surprisingly good film from a studio who is famous for overextending the Shrek franchise to the point of absurdity. But lest you think Toothless and Hiccup will be saddled with equally awful sequels as Shrek and Fiona, Dreamworks has released the first five minutes of How to Train Your Dragon 2. And once again, it looks like this feisty film series is going to burn through expectations.

From the trailer and this intro, it seems that the sequel will pick up with HTTYD left off: the vikings and dragons are now friends, and they've learned to cohabitate in the town of Berk. So this installment will continue the themes of acceptance and friendship that the first one set up so well, but with a twist.

It appears that Hiccup and Toothless have left their hometown to map "unknown" parts of their world. And after Hiccup's injury during the dragon battle in the last film, he will be both a dragon rider and an amputee in this film. But so far, it looks like the writers are showing that people of different ability statuses can be the center of an active, engaging story.

We'll see whether Dreamworks keeps this franchise in flight, or if it crashes and burns on June 13.
