13 Gowns the FLOTUS Should Wear To The Met Gala

As if the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala couldn't get any more fashionable, the star-studded event now has one more confirmed VIP attendee. Michelle Obama will be a guest of honor and ribbon cutter at the 2014 Met Ball on May 5. In addition to adding her impeccable fashion sense to the festivities, FLOTUS will christen the newly renamed Anna Wintour Costume Center.

Now that her attendance has been confirmed, all that remains to be seen is what show-stopping designer confection Michelle Obama will wear. In anticipation of the Met Ball, here are thirteen of my predictions for FLOTUS's formal attire.

J. Mendel Fall 2014

Given her affinity for simple silhouettes with intricate details, Michelle Obama would be striking in this beautiful, strapless J. Mendel gown.

Oscar de la Renta Fall 2014

FLOTUS loves a strapless gown in a jewel tone almost as much as she loves a floral pattern, and this statement Oscar de la Renta gown offers all of the above.

Reem Acra Fall 2014

Who doesn’t love to see Michelle Obama in an ethereal chiffon gown with sparkling accents? Mobama would be a vision in Reem Acra’s gold and mint version.

Oscar de la Renta Fall 2014

Ms. Obama has infrequent golden gown moments, but when she does, the world stops and takes note. This Oscar de la Renta showstopper would strike exactly the right dramatic note for the Met Ball.

Naeem Khan Fall 2014

As previously mentioned, Michelle Obama loves florals, and favored designer Naeem Khan knows how to make a floral pattern pop, as he does with this stunning gown.

Pamella Roland Fall 2014

Chiffon, strapless, and ombre are several of Michelle Obama’s favorite looks, and all three come together in this beautiful Pamella Roland dress.

Zang Toi Fall 2014

FLOTUS often rocks an off-the-shoulder silhouette at formal functions, and Zang Toi’s regal emerald version would garner more than a few double takes at the Met Gala.

Badgley Mischka Fall 2014

This gilded Badgley Mischka gown strikes the perfect balance between ostentatious and demure traditionalism thanks to an embellished, illusion neckline and a beautiful full skirt.

Peter Som Fall 2014

Mrs. Obama has demonstrated her love of a good crisscrossed halter gown in the past, and we all know how much she adores Peter Som. This gown and the FLOTUS could be a match made in heaven.

Badgley Mischka Fall 2014

Not only does this gown feature a frosty floral motif, but it also has pockets. If it doesn’t have Michelle Obama’s name all over it, I don’t know what does.

Lela Rose Fall 2014

Leaving out Mobama’s favorite color, purple, would be inexcusable. This elegant Lela Rose gown comes in a stunning fuschia.

Marchesa Fall 2014

Michelle Obama loves Marchesa’s ultra-feminine creations. She would look absolutely luminous in this jewel-encrusted, golden gown by the design duo.

Lela Rose Fall 2014

Doesn’t this vintage-inspired Lela Rose gown just look like it belongs on the First Lady?
