7 Things 'Star Wars' Fans Need to know About Daisy

News of the of the Star Wars Episode VII casting has finally broke and it’s been announced that saga originals Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker will be joined by the new class of John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson and Max von Sydow. Of all the fresh faces, Daisy Ridley is by far the freshest. However, after the film’s much-anticipated release, we’ll be sure to be seeing plenty more of her. According to The Guardian, Episode VII will, “cent[er] on the iconic trio of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo portrayed by Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford, though younger newcomers will likely move centre stage for future installments.”

Episode VII will be the first installment of the Star Wars franchise that will be produced under Disney. Lucasfilm was acquired by Disney in 2012 and will create another film trilogy with J.J. Abrams (Lost) directing and George Lucas consulting. Abrams is also co-writing the screenplay with Lawrence Kasdan (Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back & VI:Return of the Jedi).

Though we might be familiar with the fellas in the young cast of Episode VII, let’s get to know our new female star, Daisy Ridley:

1. This is her first big role

2. She’s a London-based performer

Many of her television roles are in UK series like Mr. Selfridge, Casualty, Youngers, and Silent Witness.

3. She joined Twitter on Tuesday when casting was announced

Smart move, lady.

4. She plays a lot of strong women.

Ridley was recently cast in the next Inbetweeners film which will begin shooting in January 2015.
