Life
You Know You're From Sacramento When...
by Sofia Barrett-Ibarria
You may know it as California's state capital, but we simply call it home. Ah yes, Sacramento, city of trees. Contrary to popular belief, modern life does exist north of San Francisco, just a few hours north. Sacramento natives all share the special bond of growing up with the small-town vibe of a former gold rush town. We may occasionally say we're from San Francisco in order to save time with the ignorant, but on the inside, we know the truth. If you're from here, you know what I'm talking about: There are some things only we Sacramento natives can truly understand.
You know the only real way to pronounce "Sacramento" is "Sacra-menno"
Word to the wise: the T is silent.
you've always known the difference between the words "capital"...
...and "capitol"
You spent a lot of time Fairytale Town as a kid:
and you've definitely taken one of these photos: www.mcgeesoldtimephotos.com
You know WAY too much about Gold Rush history, thanks to all those field trips
where occasionally mining for gold was No biggie
This is the reaction you get when you say "hella" around non-Sacramentans:
Deep down in your heart, you still have hope that the kings will make a comeback
Never forget.
You will always call San Francisco "the city"
Even if you move to New York City.
This brings back major childhood memories
Hella refreshing.
Hours of your teenage years were spent wandering around here
Memories...
In high school, you couldn't WAIT to move away to a big city for college
And when you finally did
Though that's not to say you never miss home
but When you're in town for the holidays, this is how you feel when you run into someone from high school
Which you always will.
You think people from LA are all like this
And you're right.
and When someone calls Sacramento a "cow town"
Because make no mistake...
no matter where you live, You'll always be proud to call Sacramento home
Gotta love this town.
