Get Ready For A Lot More Scott Eastwood

by Alanna Bennett

Are you ready to see a lot more of Clint Eastwood 2.0? Because the torch has officially been passed: Clint Eastwood's son is making his big movie debut. Scott Eastwood will star in Nicholas Spark's The Longest Ride. Will he be our next Gosling? The answer's clear on one part: He can't be our next Gosling because there is only one Ryan Gosling. And we don't particularly want a future for him as the next Clint Eastwood, either — at least if that means he'll end up talking to empty political chairs. But if Scott Eastwood wants to chart his own path to Hollywood, he's now got his chance.

The Longest Ride, which already has a release set for April 2015, will star Scott as a young man named Luke. According to Deadline "the Sparks lit romance tracks a 91-year-old man trapped in a car crash who reflects on his life with his deceased wife as a young couple fall in love a few miles away." Eastwood is set to star as one half of the young couple. From Sparks' site:

Ira and Ruth. Sophia and Luke. Two couples who have little in common, and who are separated by years and experience. Yet their lives will converge with unexpected poignancy, reminding us all that even the most difficult decisions can yield extraordinary journeys: beyond despair, beyond death, to the farthest reaches of the human heart.

So far it sounds like your traditional "white people fall in love among tragedy" set-up to the Sparks formula. Still, Gosling and McAdams made a lot of that formula a decade ago — maybe it's time for another one that really, ahem, sparks.
