Of Course His Wife is Awesome

by Keertana Sastry

With all this talk about Stephen Colbert leaving Comedy Central and his show to replace David Letterman on The Late Show, the focus has been on the networks and who Colbert will pick as his bandleader, among other decisions. But what about the woman at Colbert's side? What I want to know is how shift this will affect his wife of almost two decades, Evelyn McGee-Colbert. Here's what we know about the woman who stole Colbert's heart:

She's Familiar With The Business Of Show

Evelyn grew up in South Carolina only a small distance away from her future husband but she and Stephen did not meet until they both attended the "Spoleto Festival" in 1990. They now live in Montclair, New Jersey, with their three children. But Evelyn is not only a stay-at-home-mom, she also acts on the side. She first landed a role of Amy Sedaris' Strangers with Candy in 1999 playing "Chuck's Mom." Funny tidbit: Stephen played "Chuck."

Since then, Evelyn has appeared in more of Sedaris' work and even a small part in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, which makes sense considering how obsessed Stephen is with Lord Of The Rings.

She & Stephen Are Head Over Heels For Each Other

After so many years of being together in the entertainment industry and adding the stress of three kids, these two are still complete love birds as evidenced by their adorable Oprah interview. Evelyn even talks about how romantic Stephen is with her. If Stephen could stay that dedicated to her throughout his hectic work life at Comedy Central, The Late Show should not be a problem for these two.

She Doesn't Like "The Other Guy"

In that interview with Oprah, Evelyn revealed that she doesn't like Stephen's "Stephen Colbert" character. So now that Stephen will not be playing a character on The Late Show, she won't have to have him check his persona at the door anymore.

No matter how much pressure and how many more jobs Stephen takes on, it seems Evelyn Colbert is ready for the challenge. Plus, these two really seem like they have an unbreakable marriage.
