'Star Wars' Day Update from J.J. Abrams

by Sofia Barrett-Ibarria

Star Wars: Episode VII director J.J. Abrams and screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan posted a brief video Sunday to wish fans a happy Star Wars Day. Star Wars fans who speculating about a special Star Wars Day announcement from Abrams may be disappointed to learn that the short clip doesn't include any explicit details about the upcoming film, as Abrams seems intent on keeping things under wraps while filming in London. However, Abrams does confirm that further casting announcements are yet to be made following the release of the official cast list last Tuesday.

Not to fear, Jedis. We may not know much about what exactly we'll see in the new Star Wars, but we do know a few things about who it is we'll be seeing. Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Domhnall Gleeson, Daisy Ridley, Andy Serkis and Max von Sydow are in, as well as Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker. The cast has turned out to be a extensively curated mix of newbies and returning franchise cast members, with an impressive list of would-have-beens including Michael B. Jordan, Jesse Plemons, Benedict Cumberbatch, Gary Oldman, and the rumored Lupita Nyong'o.

Since we don't know much, we're free to spend this Star Wars Day letting our imaginations run wild with crazy theories and casting speculations, while mourning what could have been (BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH) and hoping for the realization of our wildest dreams (PLEASE PLEASE LUPITA).
