New Clips From Robert Pattinson's 'Maps to the Stars' Shows the Dark Side of Hollywood
As Maps to the Stars heads to Cannes, the filmmakers just released three dialogue-heavy clips to tease the film. Although the clips clearly come from different parts of Maps, they represent a cohesive cross section of the film's characteristically vicious tone. The poison drips from each word as Julianne Moore asks if Robert Pattinson would sleep with her "for research" (or "pour 'la recherche,'" as the French subtitles say). Olivia Williams lays on the disdain even thicker when she exclaims "we've got them by the balls." And R Patz manages to be both obnoxious and sinister simultaneously, which is probably just his resting attitude.
For a film whose trailers focused on sex, sex, revenge, and some violence, it's a little shocking that none of the pre-release clips show any of Mia Wasikowska's character's insane plots to destroy her family, but forgivable since these mini-scenes drip with the promise of evil. To make sense of the three completely disparate clips, it would be wise to watch the trailer first to grasp the complex plot about a spurned child enacting revenge on her child-actor brother and manager parents. Also, Julianne Moore must have figured out some secret code to getting great roles, because she has managed to have sex scenes with both JGL and R Patz, while playing complex older women. All hail Julianne.
