Alicia Keys Nabs First Beauty Gig With Givenchy

by Kenya Foy

Soon we'll be seeing a lot more of Alicia Keys' face-- and not just in a music video or on the cover of an album. In an announcement on Twitter, Keys revealed her new beauty contract with Givenchy, where she will serve as the face of the brand's new fragrance, which will be released in September. Keys joins a list of other celebs who also became the face of beauty campaigns this year, including Blake Lively, Kelly Osbourne and Kelly Rowland. Considering the singer's status as a gorgeous, talented woman with worldwide acclaim, she's the ideal candidate for this opportunity, but it is surprising that it took this long.Obviously Keys' delayed arrival to the beauty brand arena couldn't have anything to do with her clout simply because she's an award-winning songstress who routinely contributes to every aspect of entertainment. To that point, we've seen beauty brands represented by far less accomplished celebrities. Most recently, Keys put her musical stamp on The Amazing Spiderman 2 soundtrack and released her third sneaker collection with Reebok. She showed off her acting chops in films like Nanny Diaries, Smokin' Aces and The Secret Life of Bees, and even went behind the scenes to co-produce a Broadway play. Keys also dedicates a great deal of time to philanthropy through her Keep A Child Alive organization. And in addition to her entertainment-based commitments, she's a mother and a wife.As fans of Keys will attest, she's never been one to rush her music, and in earning her fifth number one album on the Billboard 200 chart with her most recent release Girl on Fire, she continues to prove that her self-paced approach works to her benefit. That said, it's probably safe to assume that this Givenchy deal was one of many offers throughout the duration of what has been an unremarkable career. And just like the artistry exhibited in her catalog of chart-topping songs, Keys appears to have taken her time to create a masterpiece of a partnership.
