You Could Be In 'Star Wars!'

by Lia Beck

Have you always dreamed of being a random character in a Star Wars film? You know, like a Storm Trooper, but not that one all the way in the front of the scene, but the one more towards the back? Well, you're in luck! Star Wars is giving fans the chance to be in the movie! And not only that, every donation for an entry goes to a good cause, so even if you don't win the grand prize, you'll have the peace of mind of knowing you helped out children in need.

As director J.J. Abrams explains in a handy video, a new initiative called Star Wars: Force for Change has recently been created and has teamed up with Unicef to support innovations that benefit children around the globe. For instance, solar-powered learning kits in China, Uganda, and Burundi and cell phone apps that would help kids reunite with their families after an emergency in South Sudan, Uganda, and the Philippines. Every $10 gets you one entry to the contest as well as additional prizes that come along with it. Donate $10, get an entry and a "Force for Change digital badge." Donate $50,000, get 5,000 entries and an advance private screening of Star Wars: Episode VII in your hometown. And, of course, there are many levels of entry in between.

So what do you get if you win?

  • To shoot a scene for Star Wars: Episode VII
  • A flight to London and a hotel stay
  • And to be J.J. Abrams VIP on set (This includes meeting the cast and going behind the scenes of the film making process.)

If this sounds good, head over to Omaze and get donating. And just a hint, one entry might not be enough.
