NPH's Autobiography Sounds Damn Great

by Alanna Bennett

Breaking news: Neil Patrick Harris is a delightful and fun human being. He is also now funneling that delightfulness into a Neil Patrick Harris autobiography. And it already sounds pretty damn awesome.

The book, titled, Choose Your Own Autobiography, is shaping up to be something that Doogie Howser, Barney Stinson, and Harris alike can take pride in. Styled after the classic Choose Your Own Adventure books, the autobio walks you through Harris' life while also giving you the opportunity to take him down other life paths. In other words, it's the most interactive, innovative, and fun idea for an autobiography — celebrity or otherwise — we've seen in a long time.

The official site for the book is live now, and it boasts the headline "Tired of autobiographies that tell you what really happened?" Then it delivers book copy with no other possible outcome than to leave us clamoring for that pre-order button:

Then look no further than Neil Patrick Harris: Choose Your Own Autobiography! In this revolutionary, Joycean experiment in light celebrity narrative, actor/personality/carbon-based life-form Neil Patrick Harris lets you, the reader, live his life. You will be born in New Mexico. You will get your big break at an acting camp. You will get into a bizarre confrontation outside a nightclub with actor Scott Caan. Even better, at each critical juncture of your life you will choose how to proceed.[...] Choose correctly and you’ll find fame, fortune, and true love. Choose incorrectly and you’ll find misery, heartbreak, and a guest stint on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. All this, plus magic tricks, cocktail recipes, embarrassing pictures from your time as a child actor, and even a closing song. Yes, if you buy one book this year, congratulations on being above the American average, but make that book Neil Patrick Harris: Choose Your Own Autobiography! On sale October 14, 2014.

Harris is currently starring on Broadway in Hedwig and the Angry Inch , so adding Choose Your Own Autobiography to the roster pretty much guarantees him top prize in the annual Post-How I Met Your Mother Career Olympics.
