Disney Decided to Follow 'Frozen' With This

by Celeste Mora

It seems like the once-infectious worldwide obsession with Frozen has died down slightly. It's as if we're recovering from a pop culture version of brain freeze, and suddenly have regained the ability to stop watching "Let It Go" covers on repeat (although let's face it, we haven't stopped doing that yet). Disney seems to have sensed our waning obsession with Elsa, and has offered up a new animated movie, titled Big Hero 6 . This marks an important milestone in the partnership between Disney and Marvel, since Big Hero 6 will be the first animated film based on a Marvel comic.

The Big Hero 6 comics miniseries centers on an unlikely band of heroes put together to save Tokyo, and it seems that the film will be a loose interpretation, at best. Disney has stated that:

Big Hero 6 is a heartfelt comedy adventure about robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who learns to harness his genius, thanks to his brilliant brother Tadashi and their like-minded friends: adrenaline junkie Go Go Tamago, clean freak Wasabi No-Ginger, chemistry whiz Honey Lemon and fanboy Fred.

We shall see how this slight riff on the more sinister origins of the original Big Hero 6 team will play out in colorful animation.

Almost of equal importance, though, are the Disney writers involved in the project. Big Hero 6 has tapped The Princess and the Frog's Don Hall to write and direct, with Bolt's Chris Williams co-directing. And even though the movie is in the early stages of development, it has been leaked that Maya Rudolph will be voicing a yet-to-be-named character. Check out the poster and teaser, or wait for the longer teaser trailer Thursday night.
