When it comes to experimenting with makeup, I pretty much don’t. I just stick with what I know for fear out of walking out of the house looking like some kind of scary raccoon-clown hybrid. So my mind was completely blown when I saw the work of one truly amazingly talented makeup artist named Elsa Rhae.
She uses face paint and makeup not only to create the perfect smoky eye (although I’m sure she can do that as well), but to transform herself into all kinds of things —from some of your favorite fictional TV characters to a terrifying Halloween creature to some popular superheroes.
As you’ll be able to tell from examples of her works below, some of the more complicated transformations require several hours or multiple attempts to get exactly right. But the end result is astounding.
My personal favorite that I’ve seen so far is her recreation of the Game of Thrones’ White Walkers characters. I don’t even really watch Game of Thrones (I know, I know, I gotta get on it!), but her dead-on depiction freaked me out so much (in a good way), that I couldn’t help but be blown away. I mean, is this amazing or what?
She’s also created Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch, Halo's Master Chief, a spooky Halloween zombie-like creature and a super intricate Captain Planet, among many others—and she nails them all. Check out Captain Planet’s green hair!
Her work is so lifelike, it’s hard to remember that there's is an actual person modeling these looks. So as a reminder, here’s a look at Rhae without all of her stage makeup:
I told you your mind would be blown! To see more of Rhae’s work or watch her in action, check out the stop-motion videos and tutorials on her YouTube channel and Facebook page. You’ll never look at makeup the same way.
