"Gangnam Style" Breaks Major Record

by Lia Beck

Remember "Gangnam Style?" The massive hit of 2012 that had you doing ridiculous galloping motions on every dance floor you found yourself on. (Even if that meant your kitchen.) Well, two years later, it's broken a massive record. Psy's "Gangnam Style" has 2 billion YouTube views. TWO. BILLION. Obviously this is A LOT of views, but YouTube is a crazy place where random things like that super emotional baby get tons of views, so how many is 2 billion really? Well, it's the most views of any YouTube video and it's about a billion more than the next most watched video. So, yeah, it's a freakin' lot of views.

"Gangnum Style" reached 2 billion views late on Friday, May 30. It was already the number one most watched video on YouTube and it passed the 1 billion view mark 17 months ago.

In a statement Psy said of the achievement, "2 billion views... they are very honorable and very burdensome numbers. With appreciation, I will come back soon with more joyful contents!!"

The second most watched YouTube video is, unsurprisingly, from Justin Bieber who has the only other 1 billion-plus viewed video with his song "Baby." The number three most watched video, "Charlie bit my finger — again!," is still far from reaching the billion view mark; it has a measly 711 million hits.

To honor the occasion, YouTube added in tiny dancing Psy's around the video's view tracker.

Since it's probably been a while since you've seen the video, what better way to celebrate than to watch it yourself? Let's get this thing to 3 billion!
