Emma Watson and Miles Teller's New Musical!

by Jenny Jaffe

Indie movie blogs are buzzing about the new rumors floating around that Emma Watson and Miles Teller are possibly in talks to star in La La Land, and for good reason. For one thing, the film is the next project for auteur Damien Chazelle, who made waves at Sundance with his film Whiplash , which starred Teller as a musician with aspirations of becoming a famous jazz drummer. For another, La La Land is going to be a musical about the perils of life in Los Angeles.

In a director's statement recovered by The Wrap, Chazelle writes:

I'd like to make a musical about the way L.A.'s peculiar rhythms can push its residents to the edge of their emotions–be they hope, desperation or love. Think the kind of teetering-toward-madness you see in “The Graduate” or “Boogie Nights”, and imagine if you were to push that further. In this case, the city pushes its residents all the way: it pushes them into song.

But perhaps what has us most excited is the potential casting of Emma Watson and Miles Teller in the same movie! Both are some of our favorite actors to watch no matter what they do, so we can't imagine the amount of love we'd feel toward the young stars if we found out that they could both sing and dance, too! Teller has already shown off his musical chops in Whiplash, and he played jazz saxaphone in high school, but we've yet to hear him sing. And we had no idea that Emma Watson was a singer, but whatever she does she tends to be the best at, so we're ready to be blown away by her pipes!

We really hope these casting rumors come to fruition, but either way, this sounds like a cool film and we're looking forward to seeing it!
