This 'Pitch Perfect' Star Has A New Film Role

by Kaitlin Reilly

So, this is aca-awesome. Pitch Perfect star Adam DeVine has a new movie gig, and it's alongside some big names. Deadline reports that DeVine has joined the cast of The Intern , a film about a 70-year-old man who starts an internship at a fashion website. Devine will play the head of the interns while Robert De Niro will star as his older underling. Anne Hathaway has also joined the cast as the head of the fashion site, replacing Reese Witherspoon in the role.

Is it just me, or does it seem like DeVine has just joined the love-child of comedies The Internship and The Devil Wears Prada? The Internship, which starred Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson as let-go salesmen, also explores what happens when not-so-young folks start from the very bottom of the web world. These older dudes bring a lifetime of experience to their internship that "the youths" don't have. The Devil Wears Prada is a fish-out-of-water story, as well (that also happens to star Anne Hathaway) and is about what happens when an unfashionable girl takes a job at the world's biggest fashion magazine. (For the record, it's mostly soul-crushing things like this.)

It's the cast that will pump fresh life into a familiar concept. DeVine was the perfect choice to play the overbearing leader of the Treblemakers in Pitch Perfect — let's hope he retains that "ruthless leader" persona to his role in The Intern. Hathaway will finally have a chance to go "Miranda Priestly" on all of us, and I'm excited to see where the new role will take her. (Not out on coffee runs, for one thing.) Then there's De Niro — remind me the last time his performance wasn't up to par.

The star-studded cast of The Intern might just be good enough to make us forget all about the films that came before it.
