'About Alex' Trailer Gets Steamy

by Anna Klassen

Aubrey Plaza's known for her dead-pan comedic acting on Parks and Recreation, but audiences have yet to see her sensitive and romantic side. In her latest project, About Alex, Aubrey Plaza will channel her romantic leading lady opposite New Girl's Max Greenfield. The film also stars an ensemble cast of actors including Jane Levy, Nate Parker, The Social Network's Max Minghella, Parenthood's Jason Ritter and LOST alum Maggie Grace. The film's official synopsis is as follows:

In ABOUT ALEX, a circle of twenty-something friends reunite for a weekend away after one of them suffers an emotional breakdown. Despite the group’s best efforts to keep it light and enjoy themselves, a tinderbox of old jealousies, unrequited love, and widening political differences leads to an explosion that, coupled with the flammable combination of drugs, wine, and risotto, cannot be contained. An honest appraisal of adult friendship for our current social media moment, ABOUT ALEX is a lighthearted look at the struggles of a generation that has it all – and wants more.

While the trailer looks to be half a family drama and half a buddy comedy set in the woods, it already offers up some important questions about social judgement and criticism. The mixed cast appears to round out the story well, however we're still holding on to the dream that Max Greenfield will someday let go of his Schmidt-voice and offer up something different. You can't hide behind that beard, Schmidty!
