'The Fault In Our Stars' Ansel Elgort Has a Secret (And Impressive) Musical Theater Past — VIDEOS

The mania around The Fault In Our Stars seems to finally be cooling down, but there are some things you just can't stop. One of those things is any video in which a current star is depicted singing and dancing in their youth. It's unstoppable! It's delightful! It's part of why people flipped over Glee in its first season! It's also what makes this video of Fault In Our Star 's Ansel Elgort in a high school production of Hairspray all the better.

Elgort played the floppy-haired, hip-shaking Link Larkin in the 2010 La Guardia Arts production, and he wasn't bad. That charm's been around for a while, it would seem. The video was uploaded by his sister, Sophie Elgort, who also treated the world to two of her brother's performances from his time at the famous drama camp, Stagedoor Manor. Other notable alumni from the camp include Natalie Portman, Lea Michele, Michael Ian Black, Mandy Moore, Robert Downey Jr., and Zach Braff.

It was announced Monday that Elgort will be playing pianist Van Cliburn in an upcoming biopic — strutting his stuff in musical theater isn't exactly the same thing as being a virtuoso on the piano, but at least it shows he can get in touch with his musical side? Also kind of makes us wish Augustus Waters had been a bit more into the high school theater world.
