'OINTB' Season 3 Will Feature Much More Alex

by Alanna Bennett

We've reached the hard part, you guys. Orange Is the New Black's second season came out two weeks ago which means that by now a lot of people have already finished it and are left waiting a whole 'nother year for Season 3. But we've got good news about that third season: 'OITNB' Season 3 will include more Laura Prepon as her character Alex Vause. As in, every episode. Prepon was absent for much of the second season due to ever-maddening scheduling conflicts. For the show, that meant that her character was released from prison after some drama went down between herself, Piper, and their drug kingpin ex-boss in the season premiere. But the scheduling conflict seems to be figured out now, so Prepon's Alex will very likely find herself imprisoned all over again come Season 3.

As Prepon told Us Weekly:

It sucked because [show creator] Jenji Kohan and I wanted me to be in it more, but with the schedule, it didn’t happen. I was so bummed out. But I handled it, so I’m in every [episode] in season three. It is so good.

[Spoiler alert for the final episodes of OITNB Season 2 ahead.]

Alex's return to Litchfield has already been set up in the show: Upon realizing that Alex may leave the state on the run from that aforementioned kingpin, Piper takes matters into her own hands by setting Alex up to get caught violating probation. The last time we see her, her probation officer has caught her in illegal possession of a firearm.

It's this drama that's likely to fuel the story of Piper and Alex's relationship in (at least the beginning of) the third season. Piper, giving in more and more this season to the inexorable pull Alex has over her, made the decision to get her caught out of a selfish desire to keep her close. Piper could probably frame it as a way to protect Alex given the fact that she had a very dangerous dude after her, but we doubt Alex will fully appreciate and/or buy that. Either way, it looks like they'll be in close proximity for an extended period of time, so watching them work through their shit should be a trip. Is it time for Season 3 yet? No? Still a year away? Damn!
