Jennifer Lopez Wants Selena Gomez To Play Her In A Movie — Here Are 8 Times Sel's Style Was J. Lo-Inspired
Know who has a bit of a girl crush on the always impeccably dressed Selena Gomez? Oh, just her fellow stylin' Latina diva Jennifer Lopez. Justin Bieber needn't worry, though. So, please, relax, Beliebers and Selenators, especially if you ship Jelena hardcore. Lopez is simply a fan of Gomez's work and paid her a huge compliment.
"I would want Selena Gomez to play me in a movie," Lopez gushed about the girl who cannot stay away from her on-off boy toy The Biebs, according to Newsday. "She is a cutie." J. Lo is right — Gomez is adorbs, but even at 21, she has a sexy, cultivated sense of style and rarely suffers from a red carpet misfire. Thankfully, she hasn't had many fashion moments where I winced, grimaced, and thought, "OMG. In two years, she is going to ask herself, 'WTF was I thinking with that get up?'"
In fact, there have been many times that Jennifer Lopez has apparently, however indirectly, inspired Gomez's style. Gomez has shown a predilection for short hems, bronzed skin, glossy lips, statement hair, and she shows lots and lots of leg, all of which are Lopez hallmarks. Psst: Check out these style staples if you want to introduce a little more Lopez into your closet and/or style.
While Gomez is hardly a copycat or a Mini Lo, she does follow in Lopez's Louboutins on many occasions.
By the way, it's not lost on me that Lopez rocketed to fame after playing the late singer Selena in a biopic. Now, she'd love another Selena to play her in a biopic. How celeb cyclical!
That said, here are eight times that Selena Gomez and her team of stylists were obviously looking to J. Lo for inspiration when dressing for an event. The influence is extremely subtle and doesn't always pop out at you, but it is so there. That's what makes it inspiration, as opposed to fashion copyright infringement.
1. Gucci Glam
Gomez wore a turquoise Gucci mini to the French premiere of Spring Breakers in 2013. She stood out and sparkled, showing lots of leg and a tiny bit of sideboob, pairing the frock with gold strappy sandals. The dress and the heels look like something she borrowed out of Lopez's closet.
2. Golden Girl
At the 2014 post-Oscars Vanity Fair party, Gomez poured her figure into this liquid gold concoction by Emilio Pucci. With a keyhole, peek-a-boo bodice and bodycon construction, Sel Go played up her assets in a way that J. Lo is famous for. It's what you see and what you think you see that makes this ensemble so sexalicious.
3. Shimmery and Slinky
Gomez turned up at the 2011 Grammys in a shimmering, slinky J. Mendel gown that put the emphasis on her curves and hips. J. Lo's below-the-belt curves really get people jabberjawing and the same can be said about Gomez.
4. Short and Sexy LBD
While J. Lo donning an LBD is rare occurence, short, sexy, and strappy are all a part of her repertoire. Gomez nailed those three elements with this mini.
5. Animal Instinct
Gomez's strapless, leopard-print frock screams "La Lopez." Lopez is a huge fan of animal prints for both semi-casual and red carpet outfits. I could totally envision the singer/designer/actress/mom-of-twins/American Idol judge instructing her stylist to track down this dress for her to wear at a private family function sans paparazzi access, since she likely would not want to be the subject of one of those "Who Wore It Better?" features.
6. Slit Love
J. Lo shows skin. Sel Go shows skin. Her black dress at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards boasted cutouts and a major, statement slit, reminding us of Lopez at the 2013 Grammys, where she dared to bare with a slit up-to-here. Check that dress out below.
7. Going for the Gold...Again
Gomez's golden Julien McDonald mini, paired with a totally modern fishtail braid at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards, harked to a Lopez signature — her intense love for metallics.
8. Caliente in Crimson
Gomez wore a red hot Dolce & Gabbana mini to the 2013 ESPYs and let her legs do the walking and talking. Heels and minis are J. Lo-approved.
