Dermot Mulroney's 5 Dreamiest Roles

by Caitlyn Callegari

If you were alive, breathing, and conscious in the 1990's to early 2000's, you know the devastating heart throb that is Mr. Dermot Mulroney. And chances are you were in love with him, too. It was sort of hard not to be. Handsome, charming, debonair, sensitive, those eyes-- he was all the things a Disney prince ought to be but he was like, actually real. Which put him above the likes of The Little Mermaid's Prince Eric and that's quite a feat (at least in my book). Starring opposite leading ladies like Julia Roberts and Jennifer Aniston is no easy task, but Mulroney always pulled it off with ease and left us positively swooning. Which, is why when I heard the news that Dermot Mulroney was cast in Season 5 of Shameless , I did a bit of squealing and a lot of reminiscing.

Not that Mulroney hasn't kept himself busy since his romantic comedy days, with popular shows like The New Girl and renowned movies such as August: Osage County, but seeing one of your celebrity crushes being cast in one of your favorite shows is a holy experience. And it for sure brings up a whole lot of unresolved feelings which is why I've decided to detail his dreamiest roles. Let's take a look:

MICHAEL O'NEAL IN MY BEST FRIEND'S WEDDING (1997)

SAY IT, JULIA!

All of a sudden she couldn't have him, so she wanted him. But good God, why the hell didn't she want him before that?! He serenades, he's attentive, he's a looker. Whatever, the unrequited and ill-time love between the two still breaks my heart. Especially because although it was a happy (sort of) ending, it certainly wasn't the expected one. Ugh, were cliched couples so much better back then?

GAVIN MITCHELL IN FRIENDS

This was a far cry from his good guy role in My Best Friend's Wedding. Gavin was smug, overly confident, and after Rachel's job but that made Rachel (and me) love him even more. You wanted to smack him and kiss him at the same time.

NICK MERCER IN THE WEDDING DATE

I MEAN...

Yeah, he was a male escort. So... okay yes, not the best idea but we didn't exactly blame Debra Messing's character for being enamored. And we'd be lying if that Maroon 5 montage of them in the boat wasn't the best thing ever. If I ever had to pay for someone to take me to a wedding, I sure hope they were that good looking and equally as committed to defending my honor as he was. That deserved a bonus.

SIMON IN GEORGIA RULE

Say what you want about Lindsay Lohan, but I loved this movie. And I especially loved Mulroney's performance as the brooding and morally upright veterinarian. What a guy.

GRIFFIN IN GRIFFIN & PHOENIX

Like despair and sadness coupled with a romance? Yes, yes, there's always A Walk to Remember and The Fault in our Stars but this lesser known Mulroney movie is also worthy of your time. Mulroney stars as a man on borrowed time who unwittingly falls in love and well... you know the rest.
