These Kids Don't Get Old School 'TMNT'

by Mallory Schlossberg

Kids say the darndest things, don't they? In this video of kids reacting to the retro Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles — you know, the cartoon version that you grew up with, the original one, long before the biped turtles became creepily live-action — you'll see kids completely and adorably confounded by the animated television show. Or, as one kids puts it, it's "more flat" than the re-make. (Aah, 2D! The animation of yesteryear!)

Later in the video, you can also see these kids react to the new school Ninja Turtles . Some of them seem positively terrified, some seem totally disappointed (so much Megan Fox, where are the ninja turtles?!), and one particularly astute preteen says that "Michael Bay is awesome for trailers... only." Now, there's a wise young kid with a future in cinematic criticism ahead of him.

The kids also have the opportunity to see the live-action 1990s ninja turtles, and they're absolutely horrified at how fake the turtles look. As one kid puts it, "they look like they're in costume!" Ah, the disappointment of realizing that teenage mutant ninja turtles are not real, just characters.

The real takeaway here is that these kids have some pretty sound observations, but also — as one of the kids pints out — if you grew up with the cartoon, then you're old.

Prepare yourself to feel ancient as you watch these pretty funny reactions.
