Zac Efron, 'Catfish' & "Blurred Lines" Will Combine For a Movie Aimed At Hip Youths

What would happen if you took MTV's Catfish, brought in America's favorite abs Zac Efron, and added a model from the video for 2013's most regrettable song of the summer? Who knows! But it's happening: Zac Efron's being directed by Catfish 's Max Joseph and co-starring with "Blurred Lines" model Emily Ratajkowski in a movie called We Are Your Friends. I... have absolutely no what to make of this combination of things.

The film that will bring these three entities together is called We Are Your Friends, and it seems like it could be incredibly douchey at the drop of a hat, or it could be just fine. Read Deadline's plot description and make your own judgments:

The film is a coming of age drama about finding your voice. It’s set in the worlds of electronic music and the Hollywood nightlife, where an aspiring 23 year old DJ named Cole spends his days scheming with his childhood friends and his nights working on the one track that will set the world on fire. All of this changes when he meets a charismatic but damaged older DJ named James who takes him under his wing. Things get complicated, however, when Cole starts falling for James’ much younger girlfriend, Sophie. With Cole’s forbidden relationship intensifying and his friendships unraveling, he must choose between love, loyalty, and the future he knows he’s destined for.

It sounds like it's heavily pandering toward "hip youths" — I'm not the hippest of the youths but I'm told Hollywood thinks we're really into EDM. I gotta be real, though: Anna Kendrick's Becca in Pitch Perfect is about as far as I travel into the world o fictional young DJs. We Are Your Friends plot also kind of sounds like Magic Mike except... without the gratuitous male nudity, in which case, what is even the point?
