Soap Opera Star Charles Keating Passes Away

by Loretta Donelan

Soap opera star Charles Keating passed away on Saturday at the age of 72. The actor was best known for his roles on soaps like All My Children, Fresno, Another World, As The World Turns, and Port Charles. Keating died of cancer after a long struggle with the disease.

The British actor played many a soap opera villain, from an evil psychiatrist on All My Children to the vengeful Carl on Another World. In addition to his roles in soaps, Keating appeared in movies including Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo, The Bodyguard, and The Thomas Crown Affair. He also appeared on shows like Xena: Warrior Princess, Alias, and Hercules. He might be most widely recognized for his appearance on Sex and the City as an artist known for painting vaginas, though he doesn't call them that.

Keating was also a stage actor, performing in Broadway plays for decades. He was nominated for a Tony Award for his work 1986's Loot, and he received a daytime Emmy in 1996 for his villainous turn in Another World. His Another World costar Alicia Coppola tweeted the sad news on Saturday, calling him her first acting teacher. Keating is survived by his wife Mary and their two children.
