'PLL's Melissa Killed Bethany Young But That Doesn't Explain Everything

Well, we finally know what she whispered in the police station last season. Pretty Little Liars finally revealed Melissa's secret on Tuesday night and, well, it was exactly what we expected. Melissa Hastings killed Bethany Young — well, in a sense. According to a recorded confession Melissa left for Spencer before she jetted off to London again, she buried Bethany Young alive because she thought Spencer had hit her in the head with a shovel. But, in typical PLL fashion, the show left us with more questions even though that part of the mystery has been solved.

Our previous theory that Melissa's actually been doing Alison's bidding is starting to become more and more likely now that this confession is out in the open. Melissa revealed to her younger sister that she saw her walking through the yard with a shovel and when she saw Bethany, who'd obviously been knocked out by something, she immediately thought Spencer had done it. And apparently the Hastings have an incredible sense of self-preservation — so, Melissa rolled Bethany (who was dressed exactly like Alison) into the hole in the backyard and buried her even though she knew she was a stranger and knew she wasn't dead. There's self-preservation and then there's sheer craziness.

But while Melissa's secret answers one question: Who buried Bethany Young alive? It doesn't answer who tried to kill her or why she was dressed exactly like Alison. Typical PLL — give us a partial-answer that only leads to more frustrating questions. Melissa's video also put Spencer in a compromising position, she has an important piece of the Bethany Young puzzle but it's also incredibly incriminating. Will that Hastings self-preservation kick in again and Spencer will decide to destroy the evidence and keep her family secret? Only the fAtal finale will tell, but as far as I'm concerned, Alison's looking more and more guilty these days.
