A female soldier shut herself in an office at Fort Lee Army base and shot herself in the head, which caused the brief lockdown on Monday morning. According to its official Twitter account, an active shooter was reported at the Virginia base. After the base went into lockdown personnel were told to assume active shooter protocol.

Base officials have not identified the woman, but said that she is a soldier with 14 years of experience. She is currently being treated for injuries.

"We’re going to keep her in our prayers. She’s a solider, she’s one of our teammates," commanding general Maj. Gen. Stephen Lyons told reporters.

At 9:50 a.m. local time, officials gave an all clear.

The Progress-Index reported that the some gates have reopened and that, aside from four police cars that arrived after the all clear, the traffic appeared normal.

Police have blocked off at least one of the entrances.
