Caitriona Balfe From 'Outlander' Loves Cats & John Goodman Because She's Unabashedly Herself

Starz’ new hit series (yes really) Outlander is heading into it’s fourth episode and it’s already attracting some major buzz. Mainly because Jamie Fraser is a sexy Scottish warrior, but Claire Randall, played by Caitriona Balfe, is pretty cool too (I always love a good heroine).

The new summer series has everything you could want, including war, romance and of course a little time travel. Somehow, a combat nurse Claire is transported from 1945 to the 1700s in Scotland. She is forced to marry the Scottish babe I was talking about earlier — Jamie Fraser — in order to stay safe. Oh, and fun fact, she already has a husband in her time period. Although, I would say it’s okay to cheat in this instance.

The 34-year-old actress (and model) was born and raised in Ireland and was discovered by a modeling agency while she was working at a charity event, according to People. (She is randomly discovered in Ireland, yet I can’t get a second look in New York City, but that's another can of worms.) Since Caitriona is fairly new to the game, we still don’t have a ton of information about her yet. Now that she’s the lead on a cable network show, I am sure we will be seeing a lot more of her soon. For now, here's everything you need to know about the rising star.

She Wasn't The First Claire for 'Outlander'

She told Vogue, “I wasn’t even aware of the book series when I got the first audition. Apparently they had been searching for [Claire] for a very long time. It wasn’t until I heard they wanted to see me again that I went straight to my local bookstore to pick up a copy of the book.” After they flew Sam (Jamie Fraser) in to test with her, they knew they’d found their leading lady. “I walked in the room and the producers were having a chat,” She revealed to PopSuger, “Sam and I started chatting right away. It was really fun. It was very easy.”

She Once Crushed On John Goodman

She openly admitted to Entertainment Weekly that her first celebrity crush was John Goodman. I don’t think she was watching the same episodes of Roseanne that I was as a child.

She's Got Great Taste In TV

It’s very important what people watched growing up. Mainly because it defines who you are and the types of things you like. I approve of Caitriona’s watch list. She told TV Guide Magazine that she grew up watching The A-team , M*A*S*H, and of course, Blanche and the rest of the Golden Girls gang. Natch.

She's Been on The Big Screen

She might be new to the TV the leading spot on a TV show but she’s appeared in some pretty well known movies. In 2011 she played a minor character on Super 8. In 2013 she had a role in the Jesse Eisenberg magic movie, Now You See Me. Finally, she had a role in the Stallone/Schwarzenegger movie, Escape Plan last year.

She was an adorable kid.

No seriously though, this is ridiculously cute.

She loves her fat cat (who wouldn't?)

Balfe seems to love her fat cat Eddie more than anything else. In fact, when Sam and Caitriona were being quizzed by People magazine, Sam guessed that after she got the role, the first person she told was her cat. I mean, girl loves her cat. There’s nothing wrong with that.

Her favorite indulgence is….

BOOZE! In the People quiz game she admitted that her favorite indulgence is booze. Amen Caitriona, amen.
