'The Voice's Gwen Stefani Worked at Dairy Queen — Where Were the Other NBC Judges Before They Were Famous?

The Voice returns on September 22 with Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams joining the coaching team. Alongside returning Voice vets and BFF's Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, these two will help round out one of the most stylistically diverse panels yet. To get to know a little more about the multi-faceted musician/designer/actress, Stefani opened up in a brand-new clip about her life outside of fame. According to Stefani, she loves spending her time eating pizza in bed and being a total couch potato (Preach Gwen, preach). Prior to her No Doubt days, she worked as a make-up artist at a department store and served gallons and gallons of soft-serve while working at a Dairy Queen. Even her summer jobs were so very So-Cal.

Stefani isn't the only star of The Voice who had less-than-rock-star-status jobs before making it big. Let's take a look at the coaching panel and their pre-celeb jobs. Priests and roofers and fast food, oh my!

Pharrell Williams

Before establishing his first creative endeavor The Neptunes, Williams worked at McDonald’s…no, not Arby’s, and was fired multiple times for eating too much on the job.

Adam Levine

As a teenager, the future Sexiest Man Alive formed a band called Kara’s Flowers where they played school dances, parties, and even landed a gig performing on Beverly Hills 90210.

Blake Shelton

At the age of 15, Shelton earned $8 an hour working as a roofer for his stepdad’s company in Oklahoma. Talk about having a little grit under your nails.

Carson Daly

We might all remember Daly as the host of MTV’s Total Request Live, but even before his VJ fame and black nail polish kick, Daly had much different career aspirations. Growing up, Daly wanted to become a priest and then changed gears to professional golfing before landing in the entertainment industry.
