Nene Leakes Is Making Her Broadway Debut

by Caroline Pate

NeNe Leakes, former Real Housewife of Atlanta, is set to make her Broadway debut. The reality star that is NeNe Leakes will be appearing as the evil stepmother in Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, taking over the role from its current inhabitant, Sherri Shepherd. Keke Palmer plays the titular role. Leakes will slip into the role (get it? Because, you know, glass slipper) on November 25, and the musical will end its two-year run on January 3rd of next year.

How is a former reality star qualified for the Broadway stage? Well, although NeNe Leakes' acting career may be short, she's gotten a lot out of her 15 minutes of fame. Her stint on the Real Housewives of Atlanta turned not only into a run on The Celebrity Apprentice, but eventually her own reality show, I Dream of NeNe: The Wedding. Then, Ryan Murphy took notice of her and cast her both as new cheerleading coach Roz on Glee as well as Rocky Rhodes in his short-lived series The New Normal. Now, Leakes is fresh off the last season of Dancing with the Stars and is ready to take her newfound dancing skills all the way to Broadway. But will she be able to pull off the sassy evil stepmother attitude?

Something tells me she'll be able to manage...
