Creatures of The Wind Spring/Summer 2015: Stripes, Checkers, and Florals, Oh My!
If you're one of those color and print-shy wallflowers who clings to black clothing like its going out of style, it may be time to say a tearful goodbye because cult favorite label Creatures of The Wind is determined to replace solid colors with pattern for Spring 2014. Stripes, florals, and plaid competed for attention during the brand's runway presentation, but not the kind of overt, optical print which is already ubiquitous for fall 2014. Creatures of The Wind instead favored more organic prints with history to them, ultimately evoking a relaxed Americana vibe with their mix of soft cotton dresses and artfully designed flannel shirts. The collection wasn't without its glamorous accents, however; boxy black leather jackets and bronzy, metallic shells added elegance to the mix.
Perhaps the most pleasing element of the collection was its versatility and wearability. Supposedly, couture is becoming more utilitarian this season instead of offering outré styles that stand out on the runway but wouldn't be feasible in quotidian life. Creatures of the Wind captured just that, making sure each look was grounded in practicality instead of offering a look ill-suited to the workplace, a casual Sunday afternoon, or a day on which you simply don't want to look like you walked off the couture runway.
That being said, the label did push the comfort of their consumers with deliberately bold pops of color, textures, and of course patterns. But the array of why-didn't-I-think-of-it pairings appeared easy instead of aspirational; after all, a red pencil skirt and a plaid button-down doesn't seem like such an unthinkably avant-garde combination. So feel free to unleash your inner athlete/tomboy/lazy day self this spring, so long as you inject a few stripes or the odd flannel accent into your ensemble.
