17 Stars Who Talked Smack About Their Exes
Breakups are tough, and who isn't guilty of talking the tiniest bit of smack on the guy or girl on the other side of the split? These celebrities certainly are, and while they may not have taken the high road post-breakup, it does prove that these celebs are very much human beings... bitter, bitter human beings, but human beings nonetheless. So which celebrities couldn't keep their mouth shut about their awful exes? Here are the celebrities who are sorry-not-sorry about slamming their former significant others.
Chris Zylka
The now-star of HBO’s The Leftovers was pretty upset about his breakup with Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale. He tweeted, “Don’t have a girlfriend anymore. She decided she was too good.” Don’t worry — the actor apologized via Twitter later that week.
Russell Brand
The comedian insulted his ex-wife Katy Perry by stating that he would have to think of “anyone else” while having sex with her. Sure, he was really dissing monogamy, but I doubt Perry was too pleased to hear that from the guy she just divorced.
Taylor Swift
Swift usually lets her music do the ex-slamming, but she did open up about her past relationship with Joe Jonas outside of an album. She dissed Jonas, who allegedly broke up with her over the phone, on a Myspace vlog. The “Shake It Off” singer held up a Jonas doll for her audience and pointed out that it came with its very own phone — so he could “break up with other dolls.” Oh, and yes, she still dissed him in his very own breakup song — “Forever and Always” is about the end of their relationship.
Ray J
Brandy’s little brother is probably most famous for co-starring in that sex tape with Kim Kardashian. When Kardashian got together with Kanye West, her bitter ex put out a song grossly titled “I Hit It First.” As Bustle writer Kenya Foy gloriously puts it, “Seriously, Ray J, who cares if you hit it first? This song should serve as a huge stop sign for any girl who suffers a temporary loss of sanity and considers dating him.”
Sophia Bush
Bush is a crazy-awesome lady, but her ex-husband Chad Michael Murray may disagree. When Andy Cohen asked Bush about whether she keeps in touch with Murray on Watch What Happens Live, she replied that she doesn’t — because she doesn’t have anything nice to say to him.
Rob Kardashian
The Kardashian brother was clearly upset about his breakup with Rita Ora and took to Twitter to vent. Unfortunately, Kardashian’s “venting” translated to slut-shaming his ex for cheating on him with “over 20 guys,” which, to be honest, seems like a pretty big exaggeration.
Rita Ora
It appears that Ora didn’t take any of Kardashian’s comments to heart — she fired back with her own nasty tweet, telling the world that Kardashian’s, uh, “anatomy” wasn’t up to par. All of the tweets have since been deleted.
Ben Affleck
The future Batman had some not-so-nice things to say about his relationship with superstar Jennifer Lopez. He told Now Magazine that he felt “miserable” and “suffocated” during their two-year relationship but that he felt obligated to turn on a smile for the cameras. Umm, okaaaaay.
Linda Hogan
Hogan released her memoir Wrestling the Hulk: My Life Against the Ropes shortly after her split from Hulk Hogan in 2009, in which she alleges he was abusive. He fired back with a defamation suit.
Jesse James
James is a sleaze, so it’s not surprising that he dissed his ex-wife Sandra Bullock. When asked in an interview with Howard Stern whether his then-current girlfriend, Kat Von Dee, was better in bed than his ex (REALLY, HOWARD STERN?) he responded with an enthusiastic yes. How about pleading the fifth, buddy?
Jennifer Lopez
Lopez (very politely) slammed her ex-husband, Marc Anthony, in Vanity Fair with this quote:
“To understand that a person is not good for you, or that that person is not treating you in the right way, or that he is not doing the right thing for himself—if I stay, then I am not doing the right thing for me. I love myself enough to walk away from that now.”
Jai Brooks
Australian YouTuber Brooks was pretty upset after his breakup with Ariana Grande, which, according to him, was caused by Grande’s alleged cheating with The Wanted member Nathan Sykes. Brooks wrote a message to his Twitter followers confessing that he had been cheated on by the songstress and wishing Sykes a “good life” with Grande. Considering that those two are no longer together either, it looks like that didn’t happen.
Selena Gomez
Gomez went on the Late Show With David Letterman and the conversation inevitably turned to Justin Bieber. She not-so-subtly mentioned that she made the Biebs cry. I mean, I’m not surprised, but… cold, girl.
Miley Cyrus
Cyrus jokingly dissed her engagement to Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth after a fan “proposed” to her on stage during her Bangerz tour, stating that the last time she was in that position, things didn’t work out so great.
Katy Perry
Perry was the victim of ex-bashing with her former husband Russell Brand, but she threw shade of her own — and not at her ex-husband. While performing at her former high school, she threw out a jab to the popular guy in school who didn’t want to date her, stating that she knows he totally wants to date her now and that it’s too late. Unfortunately, Perry’s former flame Shane Lopes still doesn’t care what Perry thinks. Ouch.
Ed Sheeran
Sheeran’s radio hit “Don’t” chronicles the story of a singer who dates another musician, only to have her cheat on him at the very hotel he was staying at. And, according to Sheeran, the whole thing is true — many believe that it’s based on his relationship with Ellie Goulding. If it’s not truly about Goulding, then it’s definitely about another singer ex… and Sheeran is throwing shade either way.
