Kate Middleton Cancels Important Milestone

by Marenah Dobin

Talk about royal pains. Once again, Kate Middleton is having a rough pregnancy and suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum, or severe morning sickness. This has forced Kate Middleton to cancel her first royal solo trip out of the country to Malta to celebrate the country’s 50th anniversary of independence. Clarence House tweeted the news Thursday morning saying, "The Duchess of Cambridge will no longer visit Malta this weekend. The Duke of Cambridge will undertake the visit instead #RoyalVisitMalta." Yep, the official royal source uses hashtags.

Canceling the trip might not seem like a big deal since Middleton makes appearances all the time, but this is the first time Middleton would be representing the Queen and the royal family by herself without Prince William by her side. The Duchess has been on other tours of course, but these were along with William. For instance, their three-week visit to both Australia and New Zealand in April.

Middleton's first solo visit to another country was highly anticipated and there were ten different events in her trip's itinerary. In case you couldn't tell, this leaves ten less outfits to be photographed and lauded on the Internet. A palace source told People magazine back in August when the trip was announced, "This is a seminal moment for her, when she will be showing herself to be stateswoman in her own right." In addition to being a great responsibility, it is especially touching that Middleton's grandma-in-law entrusted her with this task since she used to live in Malta with her husband Prince Philip and loves the country.

As for what will happen now that Middleton has canceled her trip, Prince William will has stepped up to take his wife’s place and travel to Malta for the appearance.

This isn't the first engagement Middleton has had to cancel due to morning sickness. She also missed her brother-in-law Prince Harry's launch events for New Zealand's Invictus Games on Sept. 10. No need to fret though, if her pregnancy with George is any indication of things to come, the Duchess will be able to bounce back in no time to keep up with future appearances and start some new pregnancy fashion trends. Hopefully she'll feeling better soon and able to achieve that milestone of her first solo tour.
