What We Want To See In Tory Burch's Beauty Line

by Michelle King

Tory Burch has built an empire on breezy tunics and monogrammed ballet flats, but now the billionaire designer has a different venture: beauty. According to WWD, Burch is launching a line of cosmetics, a fragrance, and a bath and body line. Phew. Does that woman ever sleep?

The line we available at select Bloomingdale's, Holt Renfrew, Tory Burch boutiques, and toryburch.com starting September 26, and is estimated to bring in a casual $50 million in the first year alone. Plenty of designers have been creating beauty lines as of line — Marc Jacobs, Jason Wu, and Michael Kors, to name a few — so it's imperative that Burch's line stand out among the competition. Below are the three things we hope to see the line achieve. As long as these are checked off, the line should soar the way the rest of Burch's creations do.

1. Embody the Tory Burch aesthetic: This might seem obvious, but in order to succeed, Burch's beauty line must be tailor-made for her fans. If you're ride or die Tory Burch, chances are you aren't dying to try out emerald mascara or snakeskin nail stickers. Burch's line must be simple and elegant, like her designs.

2. Provide plenty of on-the-go options: What's so great about Burch's designs is that they're ideal for the woman who wants to look fashionable — even when she's tackling 52 items on her to-do list. The beauty line needs to be able to do the same, and must provide plenty of items that are easy to throw in your purse and apply in an office bathroom.

3. Be timeless. Grandmothers, mothers, and daughters can all wear Tory Burch fashions, which certainly can't be said for every designer. The beauty line needs to be young without being trendy, and classic without being matronly. So, no neon lipsticks, but no pancake makeup either.
