This News Is Going to Break the Internet

It's been common knowledge that the Arrested Development crew was gearing up to continue the series after the fourth season debuted on Netflix, but, after waiting seven years between seasons three and four, it's been hard to really grasp the idea that more of the genius series could be on the way before 2020. Start grasping, though — in a new interview with Rolling Stone, Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz revealed that there's both a new season and a movie planned for the near future.

Don't freak out...don't freak out...

Mitch Hurwitz has good news for Arrested Development fans. “I’m working on the movie right now,” the show’s creator tells Rolling Stone. “I can’t get into much more detail because I don’t want to scare anybody off. I don’t want to be presumptuous about it. I don’t own the property outright – it’s a 20th Century Fox property. But everybody seems really into it and really eager to make a movie.”

Don't freak out...

Plans are obviously in flux at the moment, but Hurwitz’s ultimate goal is to make an Arrested Development movie and then another season of the show. “The whole thing is sort of unprecedented,” he says. “It’s always been its own little thing. I kind of feel like the more it stays original, the better chance it has. As soon as it goes back to trying to do exactly what it was before, you run the risk of doing a reunion show or something.”

Season 4 of the series may have suffered creatively a little, but that was really because the cast couldn't all get together in one place at the same time — writers were forced to do character-centric episodes, which was never what the show was all about. A movie would call for less time-commitments from the cast, making it easier for them to all be in one place at the same time. Then, for the season of the show afterwards, hopefully there would be enough notice to get everyone together. This is doable, and has the potential to be definitely worth that Lucille Bluth scream of excitement up there.

This news coupled with the news that Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have been asked to host the Golden Globes again makes this day have the potential to be the best ever.
