'50 Shades' Cast to Be Announced On ...

by Lindsay Mannering

The wait is almost over. According to reports, the Fifty Shades of Grey movie cast will be announced soon after Labor Day. Producer Dana Brunetti confirmed on Northwest Prime radio that the studio will reveal who's going to play Anastasia Steele and who's going to play Christian Grey in the days following Monday, Sept. 2.

The casting rumors have been raging ever since it was announced that the steamy novel (god, I hate that phrase) was going to be adapted for the big screen and in a matter of days, all the guessing will supposedly come to an end.

Will Ian Somerhalder get the part? Matt Bomer? Charlie Humman? Or maybe Alex Pettyfer will get his shot at a leading role. We doubt Ryan Gosling, Alexander Skarsgard, or Henry Cavill would have agreed to star in this, how you say, less than intellectual movie, but you never know.

As for Ana, the front runners have been Emma Watson, Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale, and Dakota Johnson, daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, who had a bit part in The Social Network .

Brunetti clarified that they're screen testing the chemistry between the two stars but will be making official offers this weekend. He also claims that fans will be disappointed with their casting, and he's right: the Internet hates everything. They could cast Gosling and Rachel McAdams and we'd still find something to whine about.

Regardless, we're pretty psyched about the imminent 50 Shades casting reveal, if only so the guessing game will finally reach the finish line.

The movie will hit theaters Aug. 1, 2014.
