Get Her All-Black Balenciaga Look for Less

by Erin Mayer

I haven't paid much attention to Rooney Mara's acting career, but from where I sit it looks like her job is to be professionally edgy. Ever since her Girl with the Dragon Tattoo transformation, the actress has never ceased to be avant garde. Her latest red carpet ensemble further proves my point. Rooney Mara wore a black Balenciaga two-piece to the premiere of her new film Trash at the Rome Film Festival and it was pretty much the best all-black moment since Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's. Yeah, that good.

Screw the LBD — it's all about the LBCTM (that's little black crop-top and midi, naturally). Mara's take featured an off-the-shoulder black satin top with long mesh sleeves (she made mesh classy, guys!) and a sheer high-waisted skirt. She paired the outfit with nude lips, smokey eyes, and black slingback pumps, allowing the sculpted silhouette to take center stage. A tight ballerina bun capped off the look nicely.

Thanks, Rooney, I now basically hate all color because of you. As if I didn't wear enough black — I'm a New Yorker, after all. Here's the new and improved LBCTM in all it's glory:

The best part about this killer ensemble? You can actually re-create it pretty easily without shelling out an entire year's salary at Balenciaga. Co-ords are popular right now (ASOS even as a whole section on their website devoted to them) and black is always in. Here's how to get the look on a budget.

1. Nasty Gal "Ivan" Crop Top

This top has the same long mesh sleeves and solid bodice thing going on, but the overall look is much more casual. No red carpet invite required for this outfit.

$33.60, nastygal.com

2. Free People Floral Lace Pencil Skirt

A lace pencil skirt has the same textured feel of Mara's Balenciaga, but the shorter length allows for ease of movement.

$128, freepeople.com

3 Michael Michael Kors "Elisa" Slingbacks

Finish things off with a classic pointed toe slingback.

$154.14, farfetch.com
