Your Halloween Costume Just Became Fall's #OOTD

by Rikki Byrd

One can only imagine how how long it took for Heidi Klum to get ready for her much-anticipated Halloween bash. This year she sat inside her cacoon that is Project Runway, growing and maturing into the majestic life-size butterfly that helped her to spread her wings at her party on Friday at TAO Downtown. The hours upon hours that her makeup and styling teams must have taken is commendable to say the least. Unfortunately, her wings are most likely getting rolled, folded and stored away in her Halloween costume archives. But the same doesn't have to go for you and your creativity this year. Whether you took the DIY route or visited the closest holiday specialty store, your transformation into a princess, goblin or feline should live on. Take these cues on reworking your costumes into your fall wardrobe that will give you more than enough reason to talk about how much you killed it this Halloween. Because cat ears weren't just meant for Oct. 31.

IF YOU WERE ... a Mermaid

Lauren Conrad won DIY of the Year when she put all other mermaids to shame with her intricate costume. It would be a shame to let all that hard work go to waste; so rework that electric green skirt into the perfect night-on-the-town look. Pin the skirt up on one side or get your hands dirty with even more DIY by heightening the hem. Pair with a leather jacket and crisp white shirt and you're the modern-day Ariel.

IF YOU WERE ... Michael Jackson

Blue Ivy might have gotten all of the shine this year, but if you were the late King of Pop for Halloween, don't put up your fedora and white socks quite yet. Throwing on red bomber jacket might be taking it a little too far, so instead opt for a red crew neck sweater. Keep it playful with a pair of printed, cropped pants, black wedge heels and scrunched white socks.

IF YOU WERE ... Mom Jeans

From SNL to the Today show, Mom Jeans in all their high-waisted glory was the center of all the laughs this Halloween. But let's not pretend like you haven't been hitting all of the thrift stores to look for the perfect pair. Instead of collared shirts and pullover vests, bring these jeans up to date with a soft cropped shirt and a bomber jacket. Pair them with platform creepers for the perfect street chic look.

IF YOU WERE ... a Cat

Let's face it, cat ears dominated our entire spring/summer before Halloween even rolled around. They were in stores everywhere and celebs were wearing them left and right. So, take your fierce feline costume to the next level by giving it chic street style twist. Stay fierce with a below-the-knee trumpet skirt and cheetah pumps. Top it off with a graphic sweatshirt and ultra cool sunglasses.

IF YOU WERE ... RUN DMC

Floyd Mayweather and his crew took it to the next level with their ode to hip-hop's most coveted RUN DMC. Even Russell Simmons had a flashback Friday when he donned an Adidas tracksuit to Heidi Klum's Halloween gala. Pump up the volume with your tracksuit by throwing on a pair of metallic pumps and red lipstick. Throw on a playful cross body satchel and you'll officially run the house.
