They're A Match Made In Sartorial Heaven

by Erin Mayer

We officially need to come to terms with the fact that Benedict Cumberbatch is getting married and it's not to any of us. Cumberbatch and his fiancèe Sophie Hunter made their red carpet debut at the New York City premiere of The Imitation Game and they looked so cute together that I couldn't even be mad. Hunter is gorgeous and, more importantly, her dress was divine. These two are clearly a match made in (sartorial) heaven.

The 36-year-old film director sported a black gown embroidered with blue, yellow, and lavender flowers for her first appearance on Cumberbatch's arm and the choice was pitch-perfect. I especially love the silhouette of the dress, which is floor-length with elbow-length sleeves and a high neckline. She kept the rest of her ensemble simple, accessorizing only with her (giant) engagement ring. As for our resident Sherlock, he looked dapper as ever in a charcoal grey suit with subtle dot pattern.

I am personally very excited to see what else Hunter has in store for future red carpet appearances (not to mention for her impending nuptials!!!!) because she clearly knows how to work an outfit. I'm sure she was feeling the pressure not to mess up and be deemed unworthy of The Batch by the almighty powers of the Internet — meaning his totally bonkers fandom — and I'd say this outfit put her firmly in the "acceptable mate" category.

Lovely! I definitely have a couple crush, that's for sure. They even look a tiny bit alike, what with being statuesque Brits and all. Oh, to be stunningly beautiful and engaged to Benedict Cumberbatch... It's a sweet, sweet life Sophie Hunter is living. Here's a slightly closer look at the details on her to-die-for dress.

Okay, I'm done torturing you with their utter perfection now. Time to cue up this "Playlist for Standing Outside Benedict Cumberbatch's Wedding Venue," courtesy of Nicole Cliffe from The Toast, and have myself a good cry.
