Motown Legend Jimmy Ruffin Has Died

This is tragic. According to multiple reports from sources like TMZ and ABC, Motown legend Jimmy Ruffin has passed away at a Las Vegas hospital earlier this week. No further information was released about the cause of Ruffin's death, but the news was confirmed Wednesday by Ruffin's two children, Philicia Ruffin and Jimmy Lee Ruffin Jr.

Jimmy Ruffin, simply put, was the stuff of Motown legends. He was the older brother of David Ruffin — as in, of legendary band The Temptations — and he himself was behind numerous hit songs that are widely known and played today. His most recognizable tracks are considered "Hold On to My Love," and "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted," — the latter of which has been covered by countless artists since its release in 1966.

Ruffin is survived by his two children. "Jimmy Ruffin was a rare type of man who left his mark on the music industry. My family in its entirety is extremely upset over his death. He will truly be missed," a statement from Philicia, Ruffin's daughter, read. "We will treasure the many fond and wonderful memories we all have of him...we appreciate all of the love and prayers from our family, friends, his colleagues and his adoring fans."

Ruffin was 78.
