Meryl Streep Is Perfect in 'Into the Woods' Clip

by Alanna Bennett

President Obama said it best: "I love Meryl Streep. Her husband knows I love her. Michelle knows I love her. There's nothing they can do about it." Same. I don't have a husband, but just to let him know in advance: Meryl Streep wins. She's the queen of my heart. And if you had any lingering doubts about Disney adapting Stephen Sondheim's Into The Woods , let Streep be the one to guide you to the light. The light, in this case, is Meryl Streep singing as a worried witch-mother.

Literally no one who has witnessed American cinema is surprised that this video features clips of author James Lapin and Stephen Sondheim talking at a camera about how awesome Streep is. There's also a little of Streep talking about how awesome Sondheim is. Everyone here is awesome, basically, and they've done their darnedest to display their various talents in ways that will make your eyes go wide with awe. It is, after all, what they're best at.

The clip ends with a really great look at Streep singing "Stay With Me," and oy, I am having a lot of Feelings right now about the power of that face and that voice. As Sondheim says in the clip, "[Streep] is able to find colors in the lyric that I've rarely come across."

When Sondheim is saying that someone is revitalizing his work, you listen.
