Aubrey Plaza Wore Cat Ears On Late Night with Seth Meyers, But It Was Her Far-From-Boring Beige Ensemble That Really Turned Heads — Here's How You Can Go Monochromatic By Mixing Textures
Aubrey Plaza may be known for her endless sarcasm and hilarious sass, but homegirl's got some serious style, too. The ensemble she wore for an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers last night just might be my favorite talk show outfit of the the year — Maybe ever. In a head-to-toe beige outfit that was anything but boring, Plaza visited the show to promote her new film, Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever. And the chic studded cat ears were not what made the outfit so amazing (although they definitely didn't hurt.)
The actress wore a nude silk camisole, a matching form-fitting mesh midi skirt and beige pointed-toe pumps. She accessorized with a simple black pendant necklace and those aforementioned cat ears. Her signature brown "lob" completed the look. (Another plus? That skirt looks super comfy.)
This is the perfect example of how interesting textures are absolutely essential when you're going monochromatic — had Plaza worn a jersey midi skirt and a cotton tank, this outfit would've been much different. But Plaza nailed it with the mesh and silk combo, and she's officially on my style radar.
The takeaway here? Play around with the materials of your clothes. Take a look at the outfit and watch her funny interview to see it in action, and then check out some of my favorite texture pairings.
Pair girly tulle with an edgier material like leather.
Glam meets feminine when you combine feathers and silk in a blush hue.
Wear your gold sequined skirt with a chunky knit in a matching color to offset some of the sparkle.
When you're wearing a bold color like oxblood from head to toe, keep jewelry and makeup minimal.
Velvet's back — wear it with flowy materials and patent flats for a sophisticated look.
